Twenty years of supporting children, young people and their families – and plenty of memories along the way!

At the end of October 2026, Total Children’s Therapy (TCT) celebrates its 20th birthday. It’s a milestone that gives us a wonderful opportunity to look back at how far we’ve come, remember some of the special moments along the way and, most importantly, thank everyone who has been part of our story.

From small beginnings to a big TCT family

When TCT first started, we were a very small team of just two therapists with a few bits of kit. We borrowed rooms from therapist colleagues when they weren't using them, often on Sundays and evenings, alongside offering home and school visits and even some hydrotherapy sessions on Saturday afternoons.

From those early days, TCT has gradually grown into what we like to think of as one big family.

Our clinics have moved over the years, from Meyrick Park to Lilliput and then to our current clinic in Westbourne. In February 2025, we took another exciting step by opening a second clinic in Ashley Cross.

While our locations and facilities have changed, our focus has remained the same: supporting children, young people and their families in ways that work for them.

Much more than therapy

Alongside our work with families, TCT has provided training and support for schools, nurseries and other settings. Members of our team have lectured around the country and written books, while we also work with and alongside uniformed services and local charities.

We’re particularly grateful to a very generous local benefactor who approached us about establishing a fund for music therapy. Working with a local charity, we’re delighted to help make music therapy accessible to children and families who might otherwise be unable to access it. Seeing the difference music can make in people's lives has been a real joy.

Over the years, we’ve also found plenty of ways to bring people together beyond our usual therapy sessions.

Some of our favourite memories include:

  • The TCT summer fayre, where 'sponge the therapist' proved very popular!

  • Inclusive ice skating, bringing together children, their siblings and parents.

  • Taekwondo, ballet and yoga, giving our youngsters opportunities to try something new.

  • Summer tea parties, complete with activities, plenty of laughter and the inevitable mess – always followed by drinks and cake!

  • Inclusive pony parties, creating special experiences for our families.

  • Elf Saturdays before Christmas, bringing some festive fun to the clinic.

These activities have always been about more than trying something different. They’ve been opportunities for children and families to enjoy themselves, make memories and feel part of the TCT community.

Have you met Toto?

No TCT birthday celebration would be complete without mentioning Toto, our large panda mascot!

Toto joined the team during the pandemic and has remained a very active member ever since. From sending messages and certificates to sharing little 'pandary' surprises, Toto helps us celebrate the moments that matter to our children – whether they've been brave, shown kindness or achieved something special.

Toto even makes the occasional visit to the clinic, although always with a little advance notice!

Supporting our local community

Being part of the local community has always been important to TCT. Over the years, we’ve been proud to support and sponsor local sports teams, helping to play a small part in keeping local youngsters active.

We’re also incredibly fortunate to work in such lovely clinic spaces, with great equipment and facilities, alongside a team that cares deeply about the children and families we support.

As we celebrate this milestone, we know that TCT's story is about far more than buildings, equipment or the number of years we've been going. It's about the people who have made it what it is.

Here's to the next chapter!

As we celebrate 20 years of Total Children’s Therapy, we'd like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of our story: our therapists and team members, the children, young people and families who have used our services, and all those who have visited, supported or worked alongside us over the years.

We feel very lucky to do the work we do, and we look forward to continuing to support children and families in the years ahead.

Here's to many more years of making a difference together.
