At Total Children’s Therapy, we’re passionate about helping every child reach their full potential — whatever their goals may be. That’s why we’re absolutely delighted to announce our support for an inspiring new local initiative: One Step Beyond, Bournemouth’s brand-new frame running club.
What is Frame Running?
Frame running is an adapted sport that opens up the joy and freedom of running to people with mobility impairments. Using a specially designed three-wheeled frame (without pedals), participants can experience the exhilaration of movement, build fitness, and enjoy the social and emotional benefits of being active.
Meet James – The Inspiration Behind One Step Beyond
The club’s founder, James, is a teenager with cerebral palsy who understands first-hand how powerful movement can be — not just for the body, but for the mind and spirit too. His vision is simple but powerful: to create a space where young people with physical disabilities can experience the thrill of running, build confidence, and connect with others who share similar experiences.
James explains:
"My name is James, and I'm a teenager with cerebral palsy who is passionate about the power of movement and the joy of running. I am delighted to share my exciting vision with you: to launch a frame running club in Bournemouth called "One Step Beyond."
Frame running is an adapted sport that allows individuals with mobility impairments, like me, to experience the exhilaration of running using a specialised frame. It's an incredible way to build fitness, boost confidence, and connect with others who share similar experiences.
“My personal journey with cerebral palsy has shown me the profound impact that movement can have on physical and mental well-being. I believe that every child and young adult, regardless of their abilities, deserves the opportunity to feel the wind in their hair and the freedom of running.”
That's why I'm initiating "One Step Beyond." Our goal is to create a supportive and inclusive environment where young people with mobility challenges can enjoy frame running and build lasting friendships. We envision a club that fosters a sense of belonging and empowers participants to push their boundaries, one step at a time."

A Club Built on Community, Confidence and Joy
One Step Beyond is all about inclusion, fun, and empowerment. The team meets regularly for training sessions and takes part in events across the UK. Their wonderful volunteer coaches and helpers create a warm, welcoming atmosphere where everyone can set personal goals, celebrate achievements, and enjoy being part of a supportive community.
TCT’s Support for One Step Beyond
As a clinic dedicated to helping children and young people move, play, and thrive, TCT’s physiotherapy team is proud to be involved in supporting this brilliant local initiative. We know how life-changing it can be for children to discover new ways of moving, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact the club will have on its members.
We’re incredibly proud of James and the whole One Step Beyond team for bringing such a fantastic opportunity to Bournemouth — and we’re excited to cheer them on every step of the way!
