We are lucky to have local leisure centre so passionate about helping everyone stay physically active and emotionally engaged in fitness, sport and wellbeing. Ferndown Leisure Centre is all about encouraging activity for all and offer inclusive sports. Here are two of the sports on offer:
Disability Cricket
One of cricket’s best kept secrets is the opportunity that exists for people living with disability to get involved in the sport. The game’s latest participation figures show a staggering 70,000 plus disabled people play the game through a variety of formats. The number continues to grow, as do the opportunities.
Inclusive Disability Cricket is aimed at those with learning and/or physical disabilities. Cricket is an inclusive sport by its nature. It’s a sport that many people play and follow and have a life-long passion for.
The disability cricket pathway is designed to enable individuals with disabilities to access and develop within the game in a manner that suits their needs. The sessions are fun way to encourage those with disabilities to get involved with sport and to socialise with others.
Inclusive Disability Cricket runs on a Friday from 5pm-6pm and sessions are free.
Walking Football
Walking Football is exactly as the name suggests - you play football, walking. Usually aimed at people over 50 but open to everyone, this inclusive, fun and sociable small sided version of the game is slow-paced but lacks none of the passion or excitement of the original game.
Whether you're looking to keep active, stay fit, or simply want to play for the love of the game, Walking Football offers the perfect opportunity to take to the pitch.
As well as the health benefits associated with most forms of physical activity; keeping fit and active, weight loss etc. there are also many social health benefits that come with playing Walking Football.
Walking Football is open to all levels of ability for anyone aged over 50 and is held indoors. It runs at Ferndown Leisure Centre on a Friday evening between 7pm-8pm.
If you are interested in either sport, please contact the centre on 01202 877468 or by email on andrewsill@pfpleisure.org
